ANU secures close to $3 million in the 2015 ARC Linkages Projects scheme

An ANU project that will link Indigenous communities with a network of museums in Britain and Australia has been awarded $699,310 in funding through Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkages Projects scheme.
 
Led by Professor Howard Morphy from the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences the four year grant will develop and pilot approaches that facilitate indigenous people's access to and engagement with museum collections and objects.
 
The project is being conducted in collaboration with Indigenous communities, the National Museum of Australia and the British Museum.
 
Professor Morphy said the project aims to reconnect Indigenous Australian communities with ethnographic collections, central to contemporary museum practice.
 
"This is a follow-up project to the collaboration that we did previously with the British Museum and the National Museum of Australia resulting in the recent exhibition Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation," Professor Morphy said.
 
"While this project is a very different one it has been enabled by the relationships that were created through the early collaboration between organisations.
 
"We are just delighted that we are able to carry forward with this important project."
 
ANU secured funding for eight projects in the 2015 round, a total of $2,998,799.
 
The recipients come from across the University and include three from the Research School of Physics and Engineering, one from the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, one from the Research School of Biology and another from the Energy Change Institute.
 
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington congratulated all the successful recipients.
 
"Connecting the world-leading research that happens at ANU with industry allows the University to showcase its applied research strengths while contributing to the growth of the nation," Professor Hughes-Warrington said.
 
"These grants allow our researchers to work collaboratively with industry partners and leading organisations to achieve new and innovative outcomes both in Australia and around the world.
